![]() Mach has long been a chameleon, rapping or singing over some of the drumless loops that are a staple of the post- Marcberg underground, but also beats that are far more punishing, or far more maximal the unifier has been a jagged mix. Gunn serves as executive producer and raps three times, though his added value is clearest when he shows up to ad-lib under Mach’s verses or talk neo-Puff shit between them. Pray for Haiti is a reunion with Westside Gunn, the Buffalo rapper whose Griselda collective included Mach before the two had a falling out. Pray for Haiti is his most ambitious, definitive project since his 2016 masterpiece Haitian Body Odor, a collage rendered in full. Mach reveals himself slowly, through allusion and immersion, an image loading grainily. 3 or Mm.Food?, or on the Creole being translated exactly. His work is not designed to be decoded its success does not hinge on the listener knowing which words or cadences are borrowed from Vol. His slang and diction shift depending on the narrator, depending on the mood, the beat, the threat or the plea being conveyed. He will interpolate Get Rich or Die Tryin’ album cuts then slip into Haitian Creole, nod to ritualistic healing practices and then to Thirstin Howl III. ![]() No one knows for sure though, and I haven’t checked if some of the tracks are previously unreleased. On Pray for Haiti’s opening song, “The 26th Letter,” Mach-Hommy raps about a sort of alchemy: “It’s crazy what y’all can do with some old Polo and ebonics.” The spectral Newark rapper’s work blurs the sounds and images of past lives, be they rap songs from his adolescence or his ancestors dating back generations. There might also be a project called Only Built 4 Haitian Linx which is available on slsk but I believe it’s a fanmade playlist. We have a couple alc-produced singles from this project that never surfaced in full. Keep me posted if you find anything else out.įor more lost Mach tapes, we have 5 O’Clock Shadow which was a full-length supposed to drop in 2017. Unfortunately, he didn’t respond to my message I sent in October 2020 but I haven’t pestered him and it would be cool to see if this could lead somewhere. He’s not active on twitter much anymore but he’s active on Instagram. I feel like Phil Jackson of WPRB Side B radio is by far the best chance we have of finding some of these lost records. Our source that it was supposed to be 10 Eps/30 tracks is pretty woolly. This is where the trail ends for me, I can’t find any trace of the last 2 or 3 Supertape EPs but honestly there’s no telling if they really ever did drop. Tyrondeharlem x Mach Hommy fireside chat #4: Guy who ran the show that played Mach on WPRB’s insta: Guy who ran the show that played Mach on WPRB’s tweet about conch fritters: Apparently we’re “lacking” and “in the wrong chatrooms” if we haven’t got that zip yet… ☹ As recently as yesterday, Mach confirmed in the final fireside chat that Supertape (and perhaps Greekfest) did for sure at some point drop. The whole #CAPSLOCK naming style leads me to believe that it might be part of the Supertape series, but sources consistently refer to it as a “record” or “LP” and a 2014 release date would put it past the supposedly 2013 release date for Supertape. We know that Bae Six ended up on HBO, E$L Rami was on vimeo, and our best lead yet, WPRB 103.3, a Princeton area radio station confirmed that it played Conch Fritters in May 2014. Sleep Sinatra (featured) claims that the record dropped some time in 2014 for $1000. Tracks (at least at some point intended to be) on the tracklist include: E$L Rami (which has a password locked music video on vimeo), Conch Fritters ft Sleep Sinatra, and Bae Six (which obviously ended up on HBO). Hus Kingpin tweeted about a Mach project he called eTA but which is thought to be called #ETAGREEKFEST or #GREEKFEST or ETA: Greek Fest. We have one contemporaneous(ish) source saying that another is called Uppity N****r which provides a tracklist: We have: #foreignOBJECTS, #wellBREADUCATED, Good Bye Uncle Tom, Good Grease, iGRADE, and May Day. Supposedly there were 10 of them, of which we have copies of 6.
